My story (the whole, messy, magical truth) unfiltered

Jul 05, 2025

I remember the first time I met my friend Jules for a coffee… whilst lining up to order, I’d managed to tell her about my brother dying when I was young & my Dad coming out as gay when I was a teenager…

While some might say it’s “over-sharing”… personally, I like to skip over the small talk & get personal. To talk about the real, juicy, hard & interesting parts of life.

So today I’m going to meet you like I would meet a new friend & share stories from life & heart with you.

Here’s the thing… I’m probably not like most ADHD Coaches online. I’m an open book. I am TMI. I love to swear. Wear bright colours. And talk about the REAL shit…

So here’s my story, all of it, with an open heart:

  •  I was 9 years old when my brother committed suicide.
  •  I was 14 when I started skipping school.
  •  I was 15 when my Dad came out as gay.
  •  At 16, my Dad’s boyfriend moved in & I was living in a house with my Mum, my Dad, and my Dad’s boyfriend.
  •  I was 18 when I developed an eating disorder.
  •  I didn’t finish high school & I never went to university.
  •  In my early twenties, I realised my Dad was an alcoholic.
  •  At age 24, I was devastated when my Dad lost his business, the family farm & everything they had ever worked for when they filed for bankruptcy & were forced to leave the family home.
  •  At 25, I bought a house.
  •  At 28, I bought a one-way ticket to London.
  •  At 29, I went to the doctor to ask for weight loss pills… I was prescribed life coaching sessions instead (spoiler alert: coaching changed my life, my mind, my whole world)
  •  At 30, I flew to California to go through Life Coach training & got certified.
  •  At 31, I started my coaching business whilst working full-time – coaching early mornings, nights & weekends.
  •  At 35, I sold my house, quit my full-time job & spent 6 months travelling solo around South & Central America (solo travel is the greatest gift!)
  •  At 36, I was diagnosed with ADHD & my life was changed for the 2nd time.

I’m a crazy cat lady, co-parent to 3 boys, lover of travel & all things neon (maybe because I’m an 80s baby?!)

ADHD humans are my favourite people & I am obsessed with our sparkly brains.

I share all of this not because it’s about me…

But because maybe, somewhere in my messy story, you see a little piece of your own.

You’re not alone, my friend. Not even close.

And the final thing I’ll say is this…

You are safe. You are loved. You are enough.

Sending you a huge hug,
Xena x
